Pet Rehabilitation:
Helping your pet be an active member of your family for as long as possible
The connection between pets and their human is like no other. The relationship is strongly centered around your pet physically being with you through all the trials and triumphs of your life and everything in between. A pet’s mobility is key to being with you, whether you’re going on morning walks before work, hiking or running with your pet, or even just sitting on the couch and relaxing.
Canine rehabilitation therapy is a new and growing specialty field in veterinary medicine which focuses on your pet’s strength, mobility and controlling pain. As your pets age, it is common to see them become less active, but this can be slowed or reversed with the help a rehabilitation trained veterinarian.
What to expect at your initial consult appointment:
- A thorough history of your pet, particularly relating to their current and previous activity levels and the recent changes that you have noticed
- An analysis of your home environment
- A comprehensive hands-on exam to localize pain and identify areas of muscle weakness
- A detailed multimodal plan for your pet to control their pain and maximize their mobility through medications, non-traditional routes of pain control (including laser, massage, acupuncture and shockwave treatments), recommendations for changes to their home environment, and personalized home exercise programs.
At each visit, we address your goals for you and your pet to come up with a plan that is realistic for everyone. We will also schedule a follow-up to assess their progress and fine-tune the treatment plan.
